Vânia Wisdom
The Lancet
Vania Wisdom is a Senior Executive Editor at The Lancet, based in London, UK. Dr Wisdom is leading the Fast-track section of the journal where the latest cutting-edge, high-quality scientific research from around the world is made available quickly. Dr Wisdom is also involved in the general strategy of the journal, with a special focus on oncology, which she leads as the Oncology Ambassador. Additional responsibilities of her work include peer-review, writing editorials and commissioning across a broad range of topics. Dr Wisdom has been the editorial lead for several Lancet Commissions including the Lancet Commission on Women, Power and Cancer launched in 2023, and the ongoing Lancet Commission on Cancer and Healthcare Systems. Before joining The Lancet in 2017, she had a 14-year career as a scientific researcher in oncology. During her research career she developed a strong academic research background in oncology in the UK, Germany and Portugal. She was awarded a PhD in Cancer Immunology in 2006 by the Medical University-Charite, Berlin. Her main areas of interest are oncology and haematology, especially around research into more accessible treatments with meaningful benefits for patients.
