Anabela G. Dias is a Medical Physics Expert in radiotherapy and a Researcher at Medical Physics, Radiobiology & Radiation Protection Group (GFMRPR), both at Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto (IPO-Porto/CI-IPO) (largest specialized Portuguese cancer institution). She holds a PhD in Engineering Sciences attributed by the Faculty of Engineering of UP in 2005 as a result of studies carried out at Institute of Biomedical Engineering (INEB, UP), at Biomaterials Laboratory in Okayama University, (Japan) and at the College of Physical Sciences in the Aberdeen University (United Kingdom). In 2007, she carried out a post-doctoral work at INEB on bone regeneration while performing a Graduate Program in Medical Physics at the Faculty of Science in UP.
Currently, she works as a Medical Physics Expert at IPO-Porto and is researcher at Medical Physics, Radiobiological and Radiation Group (GFMRPR) at IPO-Porto. During this time, she participated in a variety of scientific projects. Over the years, she has been visiting researcher and teamed up with various national and international institutions and participated in a few scientific projects sponsored by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) as well as by the European Commission. Moreover, she actively contributes to outreach activities, and she is Invited Professor at the Medical Physics Master from the Faculty of Sciences at UP and at Graduation in Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy from Cooperativa de Ensino Superior Politécnico e Universitário (CESPU). She also collaborated with the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) as a Qualified Expert in Radiological Protection.
She has a wide clinical and research experience which has been traduced in significant research outputs as well as in the impact in the life of several patients every day. She has authored more than 40 articles in indexed journals and was cited more than 411 time (h-index of 10). She was supervisor of more than 30 students including doctoral, master, and undergraduate students. Besides, she has been a jury in academic degree defenses. She has been also organizer of scientific events including the Advanced Course in Biomaterials and Tissue Regeneration. Considering her experience as physicist, researcher, and professor, she was invited more than 20 times to present her know-how for clinical experts and researchers. During her formation, she received the merit award for the top 3 students in Physical Engineering at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Her know-how results from hands-on work and training which includes more than 50 workshops and complementary courses with the aim of keeping up to date with the latest technologies and clinical and research practices. Furthermore, she was enrolled in 10 scientific projects.
