RADIATION ONCOLOGIST, INSTITUTO PORTUGUÊS DE ONCOLOGIA DO PORTO
Maintains clinical activity in the Radiation Therapy Department, currently integrating the Urologic andHematologic Teams. Participates in the Multidisciplinary Urology Group Meetings as well as Multidisciplinary Meetings in other hospitals affiliated as the representative of the Radiation Therapy Department. SBRT enthusiastic, has experience in planning SBRT in multiple locations (lung, prostate, bone, lymph nodes, adrenal gland). Contributed to the implementation of image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) and respiratory gating protocols in areas of Thoracic Tumors and Prostatic Tumors. Developed the adaptation of the current prostate stereotaxic protocol based on the Novalis Circle SBRT Prostate Trial, of which the External Radiotherapy Service is part. Assisted in the implementation of the use of four-dimensional (4D) planning computed tomography in the planning of fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy in tumors with respiratory mobility. Contributes to the implementation of the deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) technique for the planning and treatment of Hematological Tumors of the mediastinum, using the experience gained in its use in Thoracic Tumors. Actively participates in development of the Radiation Therapy Department protocols and in the residents’ training.

Performed the Radiation Oncology Residency Program according to the Programa de Formação do Internato Médico da área profissional de especialização de Radioterapia. Obtained training in special radiotherapy techniques, such as Central Nervous System Radiosurgery/Fractionated Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Pulmonary Stereotactic Radiotherapy, Prostatic Stereotactic Radiotherapy, Hepatic Stereotactic Radiotherapy, Intraoperative Radiotherapy and Total Superficial Body Irradiation. Completed an observational internship at the Radiation Oncology Department of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, under the guidance of Dr. Joachim Yahalom.

Research Activity

Since 2019, collaborates as a researcher with the Molecular Oncology & Viral Pathology Group, at the IPOPFG-EPE Research Center (CI-IPOP), integrated into the Health Research Network RISE and Porto Comprehensive Cancer Center (Porto.CCC).

Currently, is the main researcher on the project “Modelo biológico in vitro preditivo da resposta à radioterapia do cancro da próstata de alto risco/muito alto risco – RadioCaP”
